SUEDE MAGAZINE HALTED AFTER 4 ISSUES
By THE NEW YORK TIMES

Essence Communications Partners announced yesterday that it was stopping publication, at least temporarily, of Suede, an ethnic fashion magazine aimed at young women, after four issues because of high production costs.

Essence owns the magazine jointly with Time Inc., which bought 49 percent of Essence in 2000 and announced in January that it had agreed to buy the remaining 51 percent. Time officials said yesterday that the deal was still on track.

I was wondering why I recieve a current issue of the magazine! This is horrible news. Suede is one of the best fashion magazines there is today. It spoke to the upscale, fashionista women of color like no other magazine. I truly hope this is not the demise of the publication and it returns to my home via mail soon.

Yes...it is horrible news. But the most horrible part about it is that there are people who paid for a full year's subscription to the magazine and only received 3 issues. Not only that, but the company failed to even send notice to it's subscribers that we wouldn't be receiving another issue. What an example of poor taste, horrible ethic, and an uncaring attitude towards Essence's supporters. I'm African American, but this is one corporation I will no longer support!
