LOVER MAKES WAY FOR AN A.M. STAR

WWPR (105.1 FM) set the stage yesterday for a lively new year on hip-hop radio, officially moving morning host Ed Lover to afternoons so Star and Buc Wild can take mornings.

Lover started 2-6 p.m. yesterday. Star and Buc arrive on Jan. 17.

WWPR program director Michael Saunders clearly wants and expects these shifts to push Power-105 ahead of long-time hip-hop leader WQHT (97.1 FM) - though Hot-97 is conceding nothing in the competition that began when WWPR switched to hip-hop in March 2002.

"We look forward to becoming No. 1 among 18- to 34-year-old listeners," said Saunders, citing the target audience of hip-hop radio. "This gives us the best opportunity for growth among urban stations, and we will take full advantage."
