Soon, fans of Telemundo's Spanish-language shows won't need a television to get their fix. They'll just switch on their cellphones.
Telemundo's parent, NBC Universal Entertainment, announced on Wednesday a deal with Versaly Entertainment, which describes itself as specializing in ''mobile entertainment,'' to distribute images, logos, music and voices from telenovelas and talk and variety programs via wireless phones.
Versaly, based in Bellevue, Wash., will distribute the content through major wireless carriers and on its retail site, www.forfones.com.
For NBC Universal, the deal is an ideal way to plug the Hialeah-based Telemundo's brand, particularly to the large Hispanic youth population.
''We feel it attracts our key male and female active demographic,'' said Joy Tashjian, a principal with JTMG, the licensing agency that negotiated the deal for NBC Universal Television Distribution.
According to President and CEO Matt Feldman, Versaly plans to deliver large amounts of Spanish-language content to cellphone users here and in Latin America. The company has traction in the U.S. Hispanic market, having created the first Spanish-voice ring tones in the States.
