JARED HESS & JON HEDER ON NAPOLEON DYNAMITE
Source: Edward Douglas
By the time school rolls around in September, you might be hearing the terms "Sweet!" and "Frickin' Idiot" a bit more. Hard as it may be to believe, they may actually be considered funny and cool by then thanks to a nerdy guy with a red afro named Napoleon Dynamite. The star of Jared Hess' movie of the same name and a favorite at this year's Sundance Film Festival, Napoleon has already made some fans in high places thanks to first time actor Jon Heder (pronounced like "heater") who has turned the wacky high school outcast from the strange little town of Preston, Idaho into one of the most lovable movie characters of the year. Made for less than $500,000, Napoleon Dynamite was picked up by Fox Searchlight at the festival, and Paramount Pictures' MTV Films came on board to help promote the movie. With such big clout behind it, Napoleon Dynamite could prove to be one of the underdog hits of the year.
