A CALL TO ACTION:
Support our Latino Cultural Center and Artists

The Clemente Soto Velez Cultural & Educational Center (CSV) is need of support. We are urging you to call Councilmember Alan Gerson's office to help insure that CSV remain a Latino controlled and operated institution. We have just learned of a "community meeting" to be held today, Monday, June 28th at 6:30 PM at the Marta Valle School in the Lower East Side. The meeting is expected to have the participation of borough president Virginia Fields and other City decision-makers. Councilmember Gerson is expected to negate CSV's authority and capacity to manage the building. For decades CSV has paid rent on the City-owned property and dutifully met the building's financial obligations, including the payment of all insurances, building operations and staff, among other operational expenses, as well as offered cultural services to the Lower East Side and the greater New York City area. Why is CSV not being recognized as the building's operators/managers? It's time to speak out against such injustices and unfair treatment. Enough is enough!
